I spoke with my mother in law (a German born before the WW2) about this typical European cities. She shared that the cities, because it was built centuries ago, was made only for walking and horses (horse carts included). When the cars era arrives, those European cities just couldn't be bothered to change the cities design. They just built new roads for cars around the cities. And that's why until now, you are still able to walk around in European cities. I think it's brilliant!
