I beg to differ a bit. Not too much, I think the parents are irresponsible. But, I think the teen should inform the cruise officer that his parents are still outside. It's a responsible action, probably more mature than the adults. It seems like 2 sides are doing the same thing: a teen being a teen and a parent being a teen. Of course, the wrong part is the parent who behave like a teen. But I think, it's a common sense to tell the cruise officer that your parents are still outside.
